Sabastian Sawe Smashes Sub-2-Hour Barrier in London Marathon
Kenya’s Sabastian Sawe became the first athlete to officially run a marathon in under two hours, clocking 1:59:30 at the London Marathon and breaking the previous mark by 65 seconds. He surged ahead in a tight duel with Yomif Kejelcha and Jacob Kiplimo, with Kiplimo finishing third in 2:00:28 and Kejelcha finishing just behind Sawe. The near-ideal conditions and Adidas Adios Pro 3 spikes helped the performance, and Adidas supported extensive testing to address doping concerns around Sawe. In the women's race, Tigst Assefa set a women’s-only world record of 2:15:41, ahead of Hellen Obiri and Joyciline Jepkosgei.
