Boston Freezes Chef Barbara Lynch's Accounts to Collect $1M in Back Taxes
A Suffolk Superior Court judge has ordered the freezing of bank accounts belonging to former Boston restaurateur Barbara Lynch to enforce a judgment for approximately $1 million in unpaid back taxes. Judge Anthony Campo granted the city’s request for immediate seizure without allowing Lynch to respond first, citing concerns that she might drain her accounts if given time to prepare a defense. The city argues Lynch has demonstrated the ability to pay by recently raising $2 million through the sale of her Gloucester home and personal belongings, and by hosting a high-priced dinner series in Manchester-by-the-Sea. A hearing is scheduled for September 10 to review the freeze.
