Mitsubishi Revives Pajero Name with New Ladder-Frame SUV
Mitsubishi has officially revealed the fifth-generation Pajero, a three-row, body-on-frame SUV that returns after a five-year hiatus. The vehicle, which also goes by the name Montero in some markets, is built on a modified version of the Triton pickup's ladder-frame chassis. It features a turbocharged 2.4-liter diesel engine producing 204 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The SUV is designed to rival the Toyota Land Cruiser, offering significant ground clearance and a robust Super Select 4WD-II system. Initial sales are planned for Thailand, Japan, and Australia by March 2027, with expansion to approximately 100 countries worldwide. The US market remains uncertain, as Mitsubishi has not confirmed a return for the Montero name in North America.
