"Revolutionizing Mechanical Oscillators: Superconducting Optomechanics Takes a Quantum Leap"

Scientists at EPFL have developed a superconducting circuit optomechanical platform that demonstrates ultra-low quantum decoherence and high-fidelity quantum control. Their breakthrough involves a "vacuum-gap drumhead capacitor" that achieves the longest quantum state lifetime in a mechanical oscillator ever achieved. This advancement has significant implications for quantum computing, quantum sensing, and fundamental tests of quantum gravity. The device was fabricated at the Center of MicroNanoTechnology (CMi) at EPFL.
