
Breakthrough: Superconducting Camera Achieves Single Photon Resolution
Researchers from the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology have developed the world's first Superconducting Wide-Strip Photon Detector (SWSPD), which enables highly efficient photon detection even with a wide strip. This new technology solves the problems of low productivity and polarization dependence found in conventional Superconducting NanoStrip Photon Detectors (SNSPDs). The SWSPD is expected to be applied in various advanced technologies such as quantum information communication and quantum computers, facilitating their early implementation. The detector's wider strip width eliminates the need for nanofabrication technology and allows for higher productivity and superior performance compared to the SNSPD.
