NHL’s tallest draft pick ever lands with the San Jose Sharks
Alexander Karmanov, a 7-foot-1 defenseman from Moldova, was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the seventh round—making him the tallest player ever drafted in NHL history (7-foot-4 in skates). He split the 2025-26 season between the GOJHL’s Brantford Titans and the OHL’s North Bay Battalion, recording two assists in 20 OHL games and seven points in GOJHL play. Karmanov is set to play for Penn State starting in 2027-28 and is expected to return to North Bay this season. While his skating isn’t highly regarded, his size gives him a notable defensive reach, drawing comparisons to Zdeno Chara.
