"Birmingham Man Sentenced to Death for Ambush Killing of Moody Police Officer"
A Birmingham man, Tapero Carleone Johnson, has been found guilty of capital murder in the shooting death of Moody police Lieutenant Stephen Williams. Williams was killed in June 2020 while on duty. A St. Clair County jury recommended that Johnson be sentenced to death. The trial lasted for 10 days, during which the jury witnessed video evidence of the ambush and murder. Johnson's formal sentencing will take place on November 15. Another suspect, Marquisha Tyson, is set to go to trial in March.
