"Gold Hits Fresh High as Asian Stocks See Mixed Performance: Market Wrap"

Asian stocks were mixed with losses in Japan and China offsetting a rally in major technology firms, while gold extended its winning streak to reach a new high. Chinese equities struggled despite a faster-than-expected jump in exports, with tech giants JD.Com and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. providing a bright spot. US futures edged lower after the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 advanced, and the dollar index declined. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell reiterated that the central bank is in no rush to cut interest rates, while US job openings remained elevated and private payrolls increased. Oil prices were steady, and key events this week include the European Central Bank's rate decision and US nonfarm payrolls.

China Imposes $985 Million Fine on Ant Group

Chinese authorities have fined financial technology firm Ant Group nearly $1 billion, signaling the end of Beijing's crackdown on technology firms. The fine comes after three years of regulatory scrutiny and follows a halt to Ant Group's record-breaking public offering in 2020. Regulators also fined Ant's sister company Alibaba and ride-sharing service Didi. The authorities have stated that they will relax oversight of tech firms, and Ant Group has pledged to comply with the penalty. Ant's estimated value has been reduced to $63.8 billion from $235 billion before the IPO was halted.
