Knife-wielding suspect detained near Israeli left-wing leader on election day
Israeli police arrested a man in his 20s carrying a knife after he approached Yair Golan, leader of the left-wing party The Democrats, during a voter mobilization event in Tel Aviv on Tuesday. Security guards intercepted the suspect before any physical contact occurred, and no injuries were reported. The incident occurred during Israel's general election, where voter turnout reached 31.5% by noon, the highest at that hour since 1973. Golan blamed the incident on political incitement by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while police confirmed the arrest but stated that no attempted stabbing took place. The Shin Bet had recently assumed responsibility for Golan's security following a dispute over inadequate protection.
