The Plaza Hotel to Close for Four-Year Facade Restoration Starting 2027
The Plaza Hotel in Manhattan will close for at least four years beginning in January 2027 to undertake a major repair and restoration of its landmark-protected facade. The closure, announced on October 15, 2026, is the first since the 2020 pandemic shutdown and follows a previous three-year closure for a $450 million restoration from 2005 to 2008. No specific costs or detailed renovation plans have been released, but the project requires strict adherence to historic preservation guidelines.
