Kyota Hattori, the man who dressed as the Joker and attacked passengers on a Tokyo train on Halloween night in 2021, has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for stabbing one passenger and setting a fire. The court found him guilty of stabbing an elderly man and attempting to kill 10 other passengers by igniting lighter fluid on the train. Two of the 12 attempted murder charges were excluded due to reasonable doubt. Hattori admitted to the stabbing and arson but disputed the number of passengers threatened by the fire.
