Tourist faces punishment for carving love note into Rome's Colosseum
A man was caught on video carving his girlfriend's name into the walls of the Colosseum in Rome, drawing outrage from the Italian culture minister. The suspect could face up to five years in prison and a fine of about $16,400. Rome has been trying to clamp down on obnoxious visitors, and tourists who vandalize artifacts such as the Colosseum are required to restore them to their earlier condition. Other destinations have also seen tourists violating cultural norms, such as Bali, Uluru, and Angkor Wat. Tourists have also harmed wildlife at popular spots, such as national parks in the United States.
