NY Implements Changes to Onondaga Lake Parkway to Prevent Bridge Collisions
New York state is implementing changes to traffic patterns on Onondaga Lake Parkway to prevent truck drivers from crashing into a low railroad bridge over the roadway. The changes include reducing the number of lanes on the parkway, adding traffic lights on both sides of the bridge, and closing a ramp connecting Interstate 81 to the parkway. The reduction in lanes is expected to slow down daily commutes for thousands of drivers and worsen rush-hour backups in the village of Liverpool. The changes will cost an estimated $1.2 million and are designed to get truck drivers to obey a ban on commercial vehicles on the parkway.
