Supreme Court to Review Appeal from Jan. 6 Defendant, Potentially Impacting Trump's Case
The Supreme Court has agreed to hear an appeal from a man involved in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, who argues that prosecutors overstepped the law by charging him with an Enron-era crime meant for financial shenanigans. This case is significant because more than 200 people, including former President Donald Trump, have been charged with violating the same law. If convictions are secured, prosecutors could add 20 years to prison sentences. The Supreme Court is also considering whether to decide if Trump can claim immunity from federal criminal charges related to the 2020 election.
