Trumpet hiccup sparks memorable National Anthem moment at Chase Field
During the Diamondbacks-Yankees game at Chase Field honoring the 2001 World Series champions, trumpeter Dr. Jesse McGuire’s instrument faltered during the National Anthem, but he grabbed the mic and finished by singing the rest, then performed God Bless America during the seventh-inning stretch; he tossed his trumpet onto the ground, hugged manager Torey Lovullo, and beat his chest after the final note, prompting a roaring ovation as the moment echoed the D-backs’ 2001 title.
