A Muskegon River tubing trip near Twin Lake left three people missing for three days. Video released by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources shows conservation officers locating two women and a 9-year-old boy who survived by eating bark and flowers and drinking river water, were rescued and treated for infections and dehydration, and have since returned home.
Two women, Jazmin Hock and Sarah Vida, both 28 from Muskegon, and 9-year-old Kayden Kovalcik remain missing after tubing on the Muskegon River; authorities found two inflatable tubes and a broken car window at Maple Island Boat Launch, with footprints under evaluation as search efforts continue. Nicolae Miu, a 54-year-old Minnesota man, was convicted of first-degree reckless homicide and other charges in the fatal stabbing of a high school student and the injuring of four others while tubing on the Apple River in Wisconsin. The incident occurred after Miu was accused of approaching children in the water, leading to a confrontation during which he fatally stabbed 17-year-old Isaac Schuman. Miu claimed self-defense, but prosecutors argued that he had opportunities to de-escalate the situation. No sentencing date has been set.
The City of New Braunfels in Texas has ended lifeguard operations at the City Tube Chute due to safety concerns for its staff, including exposed rocks and stirred up sediment.
