Widespread Bird Flu Outbreak Devastates US Turkey Farms
Minnesota has reported its first major bird flu outbreak of 2023, affecting a turkey farm in Meeker County. The flock of 140,000 birds has been culled and the site has been quarantined to prevent further spread. Health officials assure that the virus, known as highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), does not pose a threat to the food supply. Last year's bird flu outbreak was the deadliest in U.S. history, with over 58 million birds affected. The virus is typically transmitted by migratory birds.
