McIlroy blasts DeChambeau over Open chaos, calling it ‘performative’
Rory McIlroy blasted Bryson DeChambeau for what he called a ‘hostage-like’ delay at The Open, labeling DeChambeau’s conduct during a penalty dispute as performative. DeChambeau received a two-stroke penalty for improving his lie after an animated exchange with rules officials. Xander Schauffele offered sympathy for DeChambeau, who finished the third round at 6-under, four behind leader Sam Burns (10-under). McIlroy was tied for 30th at 2-under as the final round approached.
