Ofcom Recommends Four Age-Verification Methods for UK Social Media Ban
Ofcom has proposed four methods to verify ages for the UK's upcoming ban on social media for under-16s, which is set to take effect in March 2027. The recommended approaches include photo ID matching, banking-based checks, facial age estimation, and digital ID services. While the regulator emphasizes that platforms must implement these checks, it acknowledges that some children may still bypass restrictions. The government is expected to finalize the rules by the end of 2026.
