Ukraine Signs €300M Deal with Finland to Diversify Satellite and Rail Infrastructure
Ukraine and Finland signed seven agreements worth nearly €300 million on October 22, 2026, focusing on satellite communications, railway logistics, and energy. The deals include a letter of intent with Finnish firms ICEYE and Nokia to develop a sovereign satellite network, reducing reliance on SpaceX’s Starlink/Starshield, which recently throttled Ukrainian drone speeds. Finland also donated 10 diesel locomotives to Ukraine’s state railway, addressing critical infrastructure losses from Russian strikes. These moves reflect Kyiv’s urgent push for independent defense capabilities amid ongoing disputes with the US over satellite access.
