HDMI 2.2 upps the ceiling to 96 Gbps and aims to enable ultra-high resolutions and fast refresh rates (up to 16K/60Hz or 8K/240Hz), but real-world gains depend on devices and cables. Many TVs still mix HDMI 2.0/2.1 ports, and the Ultra96 label doesn’t guarantee full 96 Gbps, making widespread adoption and performance gains largely contingent on future hardware. For today, consoles top out at 4K/120Hz with HDMI 2.1, so upgrading is mainly about future-proofing rather than immediate improvements.
