Manhole Intrusions Spread to Long Island as NYC Sewer Scavenging Trend Escalates
A series of unexplained manhole entries across New York City and Long Island has prompted police investigations and safety warnings. In the latest incident, five individuals were seen entering a sewer in Wantagh, Nassau County, early Thursday morning. This follows a viral video from August 18 showing three people emerging from a manhole near Penn Station in Manhattan. While authorities have not made arrests, they suspect the activity involves scavenging for valuables in the sewer system. The NYC Department of Environmental Protection has issued warnings about the extreme dangers of entering the underground infrastructure, which includes toxic gases and flooding risks.
