Family sues UPMC Mercy over Legionnaires’ death in hospital
Barbara Primiero, administrator of her husband Reno Primiero’s estate, filed a lawsuit in Allegheny County against UPMC Mercy, University of Pittsburgh Physicians, and two doctors, alleging negligence and wrongful death after Reno contracted Legionnaires’ disease during hospitalization and died; the suit claims preventable infection due to unsafe hospital conditions and delayed treatment, while UPMC Mercy notes that Legionella testing in November 2024 was negative.
