Record-Breaking US Energy Storage Installations Surge in Q2 2023
The US battery energy storage market set a new quarterly record in Q2 2023, adding 5,597 megawatt hours (MWh) of capacity. The grid-scale segment led the market with a record-breaking 5,109 MWh, achieving 172% growth quarter-over-quarter. California had the most grid-scale installations, followed by Texas and Arizona. The residential storage segment declined for the second consecutive quarter, while the community, commercial, and industrial segment experienced a 53% quarterly decline. Wood Mackenzie projects the grid-scale segment to be the main driver of the market in the next five years, accounting for 83% of total installations.
