
Virginia Counties Urge FCC to Pause Verizon's Copper-Line Sunset
The Virginia Association of Counties asked the FCC to scrutinize Verizon’s plan to discontinue copper-based landlines in Virginia, urging a delay beyond Sept. 26 and closer coordination with Verizon to ensure residents in rural and suburban areas—where cellular, fiber, or satellite alternatives may be unreliable—don’t lose voice service or 911 access, and to protect businesses and essential devices that rely on copper lines.
