Hundreds of animals rescued from shuttered California sanctuary amid neglect findings
San Diego Humane Society rescued more than 400 animals from Villa Chardonnay in Julian, California, after years of neglect and bankruptcy at the sanctuary, including about 165 horses, ponies, 30 dogs and over 300 cats. Many showed malnutrition and injuries; some animals were euthanized to prevent suffering, while the rest are being cared for and treated under the humane society’s supervision as the organization takes over custody.
