Bodycam Footage Reveals Defiance of 6-Year-Old After 2023 Virginia Teacher Shooting
Newly released body camera footage from January 2023 shows a 6-year-old boy cursing at police and admitting he stole his mother's gun after shooting teacher Abby Zwerner at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, Virginia. The video, unsealed after legal proceedings, captures the child's defiant behavior while reading specialist Amy Kovac held him. Zwerner, who remains injured with a bullet in her chest, previously won a $10 million civil lawsuit against the school's former assistant principal for negligence. The boy's mother, Deja Taylor, was sentenced to nearly four years in prison for child neglect and weapons charges, while the child faced no criminal charges due to his age.
