Mamdani to Roll Out Vision Zero Reimagined to Shrink NYC Traffic Deaths
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani will unveil Vision Zero Reimagined, a decade-long plan with 100+ goals to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries. Near-term moves include reducing school-zone speeds to 15 mph, adding safety barriers at 1,000 intersections annually, equipping city vehicles with enhanced safety tech (audible alerts for trucks and advanced emergency braking), and exploring higher tolls for oversize vehicles along with the potential use of speed-capping devices in cars to adapt to a growing mix of cars, bikes and EVs.
