UN supports Sudan envoy amid army's expulsion attempt.
The United Nations has expressed its support for its special envoy to Sudan, Volker Perthes, after the Sudanese army chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, reportedly requested his replacement. Perthes has been accused of "foreign intervention" by military supporters in Sudan and has been the target of protests. Sources within Sudan's foreign ministry have said that Perthes will not be allowed back into the country. The army is currently at war with its former deputy, Mohamed Hamdan "Hemedti" Daglo, and the conflict has killed over 1,800 people and displaced over one million within Sudan.
