Scientists from Northwestern University have developed VR goggles, called iMRSIV, for laboratory mice to simulate their natural environment and study their behavior. The compact goggles provide an immersive 3D picture, allowing the mice to experience being hunted by a bird or other aerial threats. The researchers found that the goggle-wearing mice showed similar brain activity to free animals and performed better in tasks. The inexpensive and less complicated setup of the goggles could open the door to further research and provide insights into how the human brain reacts to repeated VR exposure.
