Car plunges off Santa Cruz cliff; UCSC student dies, companion survives
A vehicle drove off a seaside bluff on West Cliff Drive near Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz early Thursday, killing a UC Santa Cruz student who was trapped inside the submerged car; another occupant escaped with minor injuries. Rescue teams pulled the woman from the vehicle, but lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful. The crash is under investigation by the Santa Cruz Police Department, and UCSC says it is providing support resources to the campus community.
