Boone defends Jazz Chisholm Jr. steal as broadcaster apologizes
Yankees manager Aaron Boone confirmed he instructed Jazz Chisholm Jr. to steal bases late in a 16-1 win over the Red Sox after Red Sox broadcaster Will Flemming called the move “bush league.” Flemming later apologized on social media. Boone said the decision came from him and defended the aggressive approach, noting the team wasn’t simply waving the white flag as unwritten rules evolve. Chisholm reached on a leadoff walk in the eighth, stole second and third, and Austin Wells hit two homers in the inning as New York pulled away; the win gave the Yankees a three-game lead in the AL Wild Card race and influenced potential tiebreakers if records tie head-to-head.
