Zooey Deschanel says the New Girl cast had to campaign to cast Lamorne Morris as Winston Bishop after he initially auditioned for Coach; once Winston was created, Deschanel and the others lobbied studio heads and the network to keep Morris, and he later won an Emmy for Fargo in 2024.
