NYC Orders Emergency Cleaning of 10 South Bronx Cooling Towers After Legionella Detection
New York City health officials have ordered the immediate disinfection of 10 cooling towers in the South Bronx after preliminary tests detected Legionella bacteria. This action follows a cluster of Legionnaires' disease cases that has sickened nine people and resulted in one death. While the bacteria was found at major sites including Yankee Stadium and Lincoln Hospital, officials emphasize that it is not yet confirmed whether these specific towers are the source of the infections.
