Netflix’s 'La Bola Negra' Emerges as Top Contender to Beat 'The Odyssey' for Best Picture

Netflix’s Spanish-language epic 'La Bola Negra' is positioned as the primary challenger to Christopher Nolan’s 'The Odyssey' for the 2027 Best Picture Oscar. Directed by the duo Los Javis, the film won the Toronto International Film Festival People’s Choice Award and is set for a 47-day US theatrical release starting October 16. Critics and industry analysts view its blend of historical drama, queer romance, and high production value as a potential milestone for non-English-language films and LGBTQ+ representation in Hollywood.
