Ford Delays Next-Gen Electric SUV and Truck Launch Amid Shifting EV Strategy

Ford is delaying the release of its electric three-row SUV until 2027 and its next electric truck until 2026, citing a desire to wait for the three-row SUV market to mature and take advantage of emerging battery technology. The company will offer hybrid options for every model and is also working on expanding its assembly plant in Ohio to produce a next-generation electric commercial vehicle. Despite the delays, Ford's next-next-generation affordable EV lineup is still underway, with design work continuing at the company's skunkworks lab. Ford reported strong first quarter sales figures, with a significant increase in hybrid vehicle sales and a historic quarter for gas-guzzling SUVs, while EV sales were up 86 percent year over year.
