US Airlines Criticize Biden Administration's Compensation Plans for Flight Delays and Cancellations

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has criticized the Biden-Harris administration's plans to force airlines to pay compensation to passengers for avoidable flight delays or cancellations. The lobby group claims the initiative will lead to higher ticket prices as airlines will pass on the costs to consumers. All ten of the largest U.S.-based carriers already offer refreshments or cash vouchers to passengers during extended delays, and nine of them also offer hotel accommodation in the event of an overnight cancellation, IATA said.
