OpenAI shut down accounts linked to Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea, which were using its AI chatbot services for "malicious cyber activities" such as research, translation, content generation for hacking campaigns, and coding tasks. Microsoft identified state-linked groups using OpenAI's services for potentially harmful purposes, but found no evidence of significant cyberattacks. The accounts belonged to well-known threat actors, including Fancy Bear, Aquatic Panda, and Kimsuky, and were disabled. OpenAI stated that its GPT-4 could only offer limited help with malicious cybersecurity tasks and emphasized its commitment to collaborating and sharing to improve digital security.
