Renewable Energy Overtakes Coal in U.S. Electricity Generation.

Renewable energy surpassed coal as a source of electricity in the US for the first time in 2022, with wind and solar driving the increase. Hydropower contributed 6%, and biomass and geothermal sources generated less than 1%. Natural gas remained the largest source of electricity, generating 39% last year. Battery storage, long-distance transmission, and other steps will be needed to address the challenges of intermittency. The Inflation Reduction Act is expected to have a "tremendous" impact on accelerating clean energy projects.
