Twelve states are now experiencing averages of less than $3.00 per gallon, and even California, the costliest state, has an average price below $5.00. The decline is attributed to factors such as the less expensive winter blend, lower seasonal demand, and a squeeze in wholesale margins. The Biden administration sees this as a positive development for consumers during a year of rising costs in other areas. However, 40% of drivers still consider $3 per gallon a "pain point." Prices are expected to continue dropping if oil prices remain low.
