Maersk's Green Vessels Pave the Way for Carbon Neutrality in Shipping

Maersk, one of the world's largest container shippers, has unveiled its first container vessel powered by green methanol, marking a significant step towards decarbonizing the shipping industry. The new ship emits 100 tons less of carbon dioxide per day compared to diesel-based ships. Maersk aims to be carbon neutral by 2040 and has ordered a total of 25 similar vessels to be delivered by 2024. However, analysts express concerns about the availability and cost of green methanol, which is currently scarce. Maersk has signed agreements with multiple suppliers to encourage increased production of green methanol.
