NYC Becomes First City to Mandate Emissions-Free and Wheelchair-Accessible Ride-Sharing by 2030

The mandate aims to reduce emissions and improve transportation equity. Uber and Lyft have already committed to transitioning to an all-electric fleet by 2030. However, concerns have been raised about the financial burden on drivers, who will have to purchase new vehicles without additional financial support. The rule change may also lead to an increase in for-hire vehicles on the market, potentially prompting the lifting or expansion of the current cap on new licenses. A public hearing will be held on September 20th to discuss the proposed change.
