Pennsylvania's Top Greenhouse Gas Polluters Revealed in New Report

Twelve facilities in Pennsylvania, mostly power plants, are responsible for one-fifth of the state's greenhouse gas emissions, according to an analysis by PennEnvironment. The report highlights the need for Pennsylvania to transition from fossil fuel power generation to renewables to tackle climate change. The state's top polluting facilities include five natural gas-fired plants that have come online since 2018. The report argues that natural gas is a "bridge fuel" that presents a roadblock to the further implementation of zero-carbon renewables. PennEnvironment is urging the state to expand its Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards and join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.
