CDC monitors norovirus outbreak aboard Caribbean Princess departing Fort Lauderdale

CDC is monitoring a norovirus outbreak on the Caribbean Princess, which departed Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale) on April 28. Of 3,116 passengers and 1,131 crew, 102 passengers and 13 crew have fallen ill with diarrhea and vomiting. Princess Cruises has intensified cleaning, isolated ill individuals, collected specimens, and the Vessel Sanitation Program is conducting an environmental assessment and outbreak investigation. The ship is on a 13-day Caribbean itinerary with Port Canaveral due May 11, and this follows recent outbreaks on Princess ships and other lines.
