FDA approves first-ever RSV vaccine for older adults.

The FDA has approved the world's first RSV vaccine for adults aged 60 and above, made by GSK. The vaccine has been shown to lower the risk of symptomatic illness by 83% and severe illness by 94%. RSV causes lower respiratory illness, which can lead to pneumonia or bronchiolitis, particularly in older people and infants. The CDC must still recommend the vaccine before it becomes available to the public. GSK is already manufacturing doses of the vaccine, to be sold under the brand name Arexvy, and aims to have shots available in the fall.
