FDA Issues Warning on Eye Drops Contaminated with Bacteria and Fungus

The FDA has issued a warning to consumers to stop using "Dr. Berne's MSM Drops 5% Solution" and "LightEyez MSM Eye Drops – Eye Repair" due to potential bacterial or fungal contamination, which could pose serious health risks including vision- and life-threatening infections. These recalls follow previous FDA warnings against using several eye drop brands linked to an outbreak of drug-resistant bacteria, which has resulted in at least 4 deaths and numerous infections across 18 states. The contaminated products were found to be unsterile and contain an unapproved active ingredient. Dr. Berne has issued a voluntary recall, while LightEyez Limited has not responded to the FDA.
