Michigan ends lettuce warning as cyclosporiasis cases fall

Michigan health officials say residents can return to their usual salad routines, including bagged salads, as cyclosporiasis cases in the state fall (12,485 cases since June with 279 hospitalizations and two deaths). The majority of illness occurred in late June–early July and contaminated produce is likely no longer in distribution. The CDC linked the outbreak to shredded iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms de Mexico, with initial reports across about 15 states and the FDA recalling central-Mexico iceberg lettuce distributed to roughly 27 states. Consumers should still avoid recalled lettuce and, when possible, buy whole heads, discard outer leaves, and thoroughly wash inner greens; four Michigan cases are part of an unrelated Salmonella outbreak tied to jalapeños.
