Starbucks ordered to compensate fired manager $2.7 million in lost wages following arrest of 2 Black men

Starbucks has been ordered by a judge to pay an additional $2.7 million in lost wages and tax damages to a former regional manager, Shannon Phillips, who was fired after the arrest of two Black men at a store in 2018. Phillips had previously been awarded $25 million in compensatory and punitive damages after a jury found that race was a factor in her firing. The judge's order includes compensation for past and future lost earnings, benefits, and tax disadvantages. Starbucks is seeking a new trial, while Phillips' lawyers are also seeking $1.4 million in legal fees. The arrests of the two Black men at the Philadelphia store had prompted a national outcry, and Starbucks later reached a settlement with the men.
