Richmond City Council Approves $2.4B Diamond District Redevelopment Plan

The city of Richmond has received final approval from the City Council for its $2.4 billion Diamond District deal, which will see the land turned over to the city's Economic Development Authority. The project includes a new stadium that meets Major League Baseball guidelines, mixed-income housing, and a new 11-acre park. The Flying Squirrels, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, will form a lease agreement to occupy the stadium, and Virginia Commonwealth University's baseball team will also use the stadium. The project is expected to be completed by 2026.
