Rays reveal sky-view, indoor-outdoor ballpark planned for Tampa in 2029
The Rays released renderings of their $2.3 billion Tampa ballpark set to open in 2029, highlighting a transparent fixed roof that creates an indoor-outdoor feel with views of planes and lightning. The design uses ETFE and climate-control tech to keep guests cool, features an intimate seating layout with near-home-plate sightlines, two of the largest video boards, a larger ray tank aquarium, and a plaza entrance with a bar. The ballpark will seat roughly 30,000 fixed seats (low- to mid-30s total capacity) on artificial turf with a dirt infield, and will be part of a larger mixed-use development. The Rays will fund most of the cost but are negotiating public funding with Tampa and Hillsborough County; construction could begin soon for a 2029 opening.
